NEW DELHI: The opening Test of the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy witnessed a worrying incident on Day 3 during India’s second innings.
Virat Kohli, in sublime form, played a flashing cut shot off Mitchell Starc in the 101st over, sending the ball sailing over the boundary ropes for a six.

He appeared visibly concerned as the play was halted. The Australian players, including Nathan Lyon, gathered around the steward to check on his condition, and the team’s physio rushed to conduct a concussion test.

Thankfully, the steward appeared fine after the initial assessment, bringing relief to everyone on the field.
At the time of the incident, Kohli was batting on a well-constructed 27 off 46 balls, leading India’s dominance in the match.
The team had already built a commanding lead of 380 runs against Australia in Perth.
Kohli’s innings, marked by impeccable timing and control, has further bolstered India’s second innings after a shaky first-innings performance.
Earlier, India openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul scripted history with an unbeaten 201-run partnership for the opening wicket during the first Test of the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Perth.
This stellar performance in the second innings not only put India in a commanding position but also set a new record for the highest opening-wicket stand by India in Australia, surpassing the 191-run partnership between Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth at Sydney in 1986.
