NEW DELHI: Arshdeep Singh was on Sunday bought back by Punjab Kings for a whopping Rs 18 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
The auction took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where Arshdeep was part of the marquee list with a base price of Rs 2 crore.
Exercising their Right to Match (RTM) card, the Punjab franchise matched Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Rs 18 crore bid to retain the services of Arshdeep.
Arshdeep entered the auction after being released by Punjab, despite his consistent performance for the franchise, particularly his ability to bowl precise yorkers and deliveries exceeding 140 kph in crucial overs.
The 25-year-old is a prominent cricketer for India and excels in the T20 format. He is known for his ability to bowl toe-crushing yorkers and swing the ball effectively, showcasing his skills in both international and domestic cricket, including a noteworthy IPL career.
Arshdeep, a left-arm pacer, has established himself in the IPL with 76 wickets in 65 matches at an impressive strike rate of 17.9. His best bowling figures of 5/32 and an economy rate of 9.02 demonstrate his effectiveness under pressure.
Since his IPL debut in 2019, Arshdeep has played exclusively for Punjab Kings. He was retained by the franchise for 4 crores as an uncapped Indian player ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.
In T20 internationals, Arshdeep has represented India in 60 innings, claiming 95 wickets. He currently holds the position of India’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is, trailing spinner Yuzvendra Chahal by a single wicket.
He has surpassed Indian pace stars like Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in terms of wickets taken. Arshdeep has already achieved victories in the U-19 World Cup 2018 and the T20 World Cup 2024.
The IPL 2021 season marked a breakthrough for Arshdeep, as he claimed 18 wickets in 12 matches. His ability to consistently deliver yorkers with his left-arm bowling style established him as a potent death bowler for Punjab. During that season, he also recorded his best T20 bowling figures of 5 for 32 against Rajasthan Royals.
He carried his strong form into the 2023 season, taking 17 wickets, the highest for the franchise that year. In the 2024 IPL season, Arshdeep Singh captured 19 wickets, narrowly missing the Purple Cap by just two wickets.
