Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions are an opportunity for some of the lesser known names to become crorepatis and become household names. It is also an avenue where the big names in cricket get blockbuster deals of their own to push franchises towards glory. At the same time, it is when players who are on the wane see their valuation take a nosedive.
That was the case for some of the players during the two-day IPL Auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where Rs 639.15 crore was spent on 182 players. From once earning big bucks during the auction, quite a few either found no takers and ones that did, their salary saw a drop.

Sam Curran (Rs 18.50 crore to Rs 2.40 crore)
Sam Curran was arguably the biggest name to take a big paycut as his stock went down in IPL. The England left-arm seamer was once the most expensive buy in IPL history but went for Rs 2.40 crore to Chennai Super Kings on Day 2 of the auction.
During the 2023 IPL Auction, Curran had been acquired by the Punjab Kings for Rs 18.50 crore.
Tim David (Rs 8.25 crore to Rs 3 crore)
Tim David will play his IPL cricket next season at Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who spent Rs 3 crore for him during the auction.
The Australian was with Mumbai Indians since 2022 but the franchise opted against retaining him.
David was with MI at the price of Rs 8.25 crore but he had to take a 63 percent pay cut for the 2025 season.
Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer fetch Rs 26.75 crore, Rs 23.75 crore each at IPL mega auction
Ishan Kishan (Rs 15.25 crore to Rs 11.25 crore)
Ishan Kishan didn’t see a massive paycut as the rest on the list but his stock did see a drop during the auction in Saudi Arabia. He will be turning up for a new franchise from the 2025 edition with the young wicketkeeper-batter getting sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 11.25 crore, 26% lesser than the Rs 15.25 crore that Mumbai Indians had spent on him in 2022.
This time, MI got the bidding war going before bowing out after Rs 3.20 crore. Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up from that point. SRH eventually outbid the rest.
At the 2022 IPL Auction, Mumbai Indians had identified his explosive hitting talent and signed him for Rs 15.25 crore.
Kumar Kushagra (Rs 7.2 crore to Rs 65 lakh)
Kumar Kushagra was taken for a staggering Rs 7.20 crore by Delhi Capitals last year. This time around, though, he went for only Rs 65 lakhs with Gujarat Titans the eventual franchise.
Anuj Rawat (Rs 3.4 crore to Rs 30 lakh)
Another player who will be in the GT squad will be Anuj Rawat, joining at Rs 30 lakh. It is a massive nosedive from the Rs 3.40 crore that Royal Challengers Bengaluru paid for him in 2022. Just 98 runs from five matches last year didn’t help his cause either.
