28 runs in 80 balls: Gabba rain leaves 30,000 fans refunded

NEW DELHI: The incessant rains not only spoil the first day of the third India-Australia Test in Brisbane but also deprive fans of the chance to witness a full day of exhilarating Test match action.
However, the fans who made it to the stadium will have something to cheer about as they are entitled to receive full refunds after just 80 legal deliveries were bowled on the first day on Saturday.
Cricket Australia announced that 30,145 fans would receive full refunds since less than 15 overs were completed. The governing body has insurance to cover losses caused by wet weather.

India won the toss and elected to bowl, but rain interrupted play in the sixth over, causing a 30-minute delay. The showers returned about half an hour later and persisted until the scheduled lunch break.
By the end of the day’s brief action, Australia were 28/0 after 13.2 overs, with Usman Khawaja on 19 and Nathan McSweeney on 4.
At one stage, the Gabba outfield was almost completely submerged as torrential rain pounded Brisbane. Although the outfield began to drain, the rain never ceased long enough to allow play to resume.
The series remains tied at 1-1, with India winning the first Test in Perth by 295 runs, while Australia bounced back to claim the second day-night Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets.
