The Border-Gavaskar Trophy, broadcast on Star Sports Network in India, has seen remarkable viewership numbers. The first two Tests, played in Perth and Adelaide, have drawn a combined audience of 86 million viewers, accumulating 12.8 billion minutes of watch time. These figures represent a substantial increase of 55% and 75% respectively, compared to the 2020 series.
The second Test in Adelaide, a day-night match, captivated 49 million viewers. This translates to a 22% rise compared to the corresponding 2020 day-night Test. Viewers dedicated a remarkable 4.2 billion minutes to watching the match, a 26% jump from the 2020 encounter.
The Adelaide Test also saw a significant 32% increase in TVR compared to the 2020 day-night Test. These figures underscore the growing popularity of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, solidifying its reputation as a highly anticipated cricketing event.
With the five-Test series poised at 1-1 after three exciting matches, the stage is set for a decisive finish that will determine the qualification scenario for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final. Team India faces a critical challenge in the remaining two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney.
India need to deliver outstanding performances to secure their place in the WTC final. To achieve this, they must avoid any further defeats and can afford, at most, one draw.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy continues with the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, starting December 26th at 5:00 AM IST. The match will be broadcast live on Star Sports Network and Disney+ Hotstar.
