NEW DELHI: India pace spearhead and now captain Jasprit Bumrah is a nightmare not only for batsmen all over the world but also to his team’s wicketkeepers.
Ahead of the second day’s play in the fifth Test between India and Australia in Sydney on Saturday, 7Cricket shared a clip of former Aussie opener Justin Langer asking Rishabh Pant what it’s like to keep to Jasprit Bumrah.
Pant replies, “Oh man! It’s actually pretty difficult because the kind of angle he creates, sometimes you have to move on one side little quicker and when the edges come on the other side you just have to manage. It’s quite difficult but part of the job I would say.”
And as fate would have it, Bumrah dismissed Marnus Labuschagne for his first wicket of Day 2 and the catch was taken by Pant.
The wicket was Bumrah ‘s 32nd scalp in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia taking him past spin-bowling legend Bishan Singh Bedi for the record of most wickets by an Indian bowler in a single away Test series.
Most wickets for India in a series in Australia
- 32 Jasprit Bumrah in 2024/25
- 31 Bishan Bedi in 1977/78
- 28 BS Chandrasekhar in 1977/78
- 25 EAS Prasanna in 1967/68
- 25 Kapil Dev in 1991/92
Australia, who lead 2-1, need a win or a draw to secure the trophy for the first time in 10 years, while India need a win to make it 2-2 and retain the BGT as the previous edition’s winners.
