'Unwavering dedication to India’s success': Suresh Raina lauds Rohit Sharma’s leadership and selfless approach

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, a former teammate of Rohit Sharma, has praised Sharma, calling him a ‘true legend of the game.’ Raina’s comments follow Sharma’s explanation regarding his absence from the Sydney Test.
Raina took to the social media platform X to express his admiration for Sharma’s leadership qualities.
“Rohit Sharma exemplifies leadership through honesty and selflessness. Despite personal challenges, he prioritises team success, stepping aside when necessary. His leadership in the current Test series reflects his unwavering dedication to India’s success. A true legend of the game.”

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, has addressed rumours about his potential retirement from cricket. He clarified that his omission from the Sydney Test was entirely due to his recent poor batting form.
Sharma spoke to Star Sports during the lunch break on Day 2 of the Sydney Test match. He explained that his decision to sit out the Sydney Test, while difficult, was a practical one and unrelated to any retirement plans.
“As I told you, this decision is not a retirement decision, nor am I stepping aside from the game—there is no such decision. I am out of the game because bat nahi chal raha hai,” Sharma said, acknowledging the fluctuating nature of batting performance in cricket.
He admitted that there is no guarantee when his form might return, whether it takes two months or five. He emphasised that cricket, much like life, is a continuous process of change and evolution. Sharma remains hopeful for future improvement while staying realistic about the current situation.
Rohit Sharma’s performance with the bat in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been a cause for concern. He has averaged a mere 6.2 runs across three Test matches against Australia, with a highest score of just 10.
His batting form dipped further following his absence from the Perth Test, which he missed due to the birth of his second child. He has not managed to score more than 10 runs in any of his last five innings.
