After Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana’s five-wicket spell triggered West Indies‘ collapse on day three of the second Test, the visitors’ batting line-up fought it out to take control of the match in Jamaica.
The Windies, who began the day at 70 for 1, were just 94 runs away from Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 164 but had no answer to the skills of 22-year-old Rana who took 5 for 61 as the home team was bowled out for 146 to concede a thin 18-run lead.

Keacy Carty led the Windies’ scorecard with his knock of 40, while skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, who was caught at gully off Rana’s bowling as the first wicket of the day, managed 39 runs.
Rana’s fellow pacer Hasan Mahmud took 2 for 19, while Taskin Ahmed, Tajiul Islam and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket each.
After that the Bangladesh batting line-up, encouraged by their bowling success, came up with a better effort in the second innings to reach 193 for five at stumps, extending their lead to 211 with five wickets remaining.
Bangladesh recovered from the early dismissal of Mahmudul Hasan Joy (0) with 46 from Shadman Islam and a brisk 39-ball 42 from captain Miraz, who elevated himself to number four in the batting order.
Considering that the highest successful Test chase at Sabina Park stands at 211, accomplished by the West Indies against Sri Lanka in 2003, historical statistics suggest Bangladesh are well-positioned to secure a series-levelling victory in the remaining two days.
