BCCI likely to hold WPL-3 at four venues

MUMBAI: For the first time since the Women’s Premier League began, the BCCI is planning to stage the third edition of the tournament at four venues — Mumbai, Lucknow, Bengaluru and Vadodara.
“WPL-3 is likely to be held at four venues – Mumbai, Lucknow, Bengaluru and Vadodara – each of which will stage the tournament in four phases. The event is likely to kick off at Mumbai, with the brand new Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara set to stage the final,” a source in the BCCI told TOI on Sunday, after a meeting of the BCCI’s WPL governing council at the BCCI headquarters here.
The 23-match season is expected to commence on February 6 and culminate in the first week of March.
Baroda’s Kotambi Stadium staged its maiden international matches last month, when it hosted the three-match Women’s ODI series against the West Indies.
It has staged a few Ranji Trophy games, and is currently hosting the knockout rounds of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The first season of WPL was entirely hosted in two stadiums — the DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium in CCI in Mumbai, while Bengaluru and Delhi staged the second season.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the defending champions.
