NEW DELHI: KL Rahul batted brilliantly in the second innings of the first Test against Australia in Perth in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Opening in the innings in the absence of captain Rohit Sharma, Rahul was a victim of a dubious decision in the first innings but more than made up for it with a magnificent 77 in the second innings.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Rahul’s opening partnership of 201 with Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) spearheaded India’s fightback in the second innings after being bowled out for 150 in the first essay.
But with Rohit Sharma having now reached Perth, Rahul is almost set to be moved down the order, with the captain taking his opening spot in the second Test at Adelaide.
Ahead of the fourth day’s play in Perth, Rahul was asked about the return of Rohit in a video shared by 7Cricket.
Rahul responds with a smile, “He’ll obviously walk in.”
On his spot in the batting order, Rahul said, “We’ll have to wait and see. I’m sure the captain and the coach have it sorted in their heads and we’re just focused on today at the moment and try to get the 7 wickets that are left and then think about Adelaide when it comes and yeah, hopefully get a chance in Adelaide.”
The last time India played the day-night Test in Adelaide in December 2020, they were bundled out for 36 in their second innings, but what happened in the series after that was nothing short of extraordinary and historic.
