NEW DELHI: Fielding has become an integral aspect of modern cricket, and the Indian cricket team has made tremendous strides in this department over the years. Once considered a weaker fielding side compared to some other teams, India now boasts some of the best fielders in the world.
The focus on fitness under captains like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli made fielding a core aspect of India’s cricketing philosophy.

Modern Indian players are among the fittest in the world, thanks to advanced training methods and a focus on strength and agility. Indian fielders are adept at saving runs in the outfield, with exceptional diving stops and quick returns.
Whether in the slips, close-in positions, or outfield, Indian players have become reliable catchers. Agile movements and accurate throws, particularly from the deep, are hallmarks of India’s fielding unit.
Fielding drills are crucial for maintaining the high standards of the Indian cricket team. Under the guidance of world-class fielding coaches and support staff, the Indian team practices a variety of drills to enhance their agility, reflexes, throwing accuracy, and catching abilities.

How India are preparing for the Pink-Ball Test vs Australia in Adelaide

On Wednesday, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) shared a video in which Indian cricketers are undergoing fielding drills under the watchful eyes of fielding coach T Dilip ahead of the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide starting Friday.
The video starts with T Dilip saying, “Today’s fielding session, we’ll start off having a team fielding in covers, mid-off, mid-on and short mid-wicket. So I’ll be hitting the ball to covers and the mid-on fielder will back up and return the ball to Nuwan. Let’s go!”
The video then shows players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli and others taking a hit at the stumps while fielding.
