NEW DELHI: Australia on Thursday announced their squad for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be played in Adelaide from December 6.
Uncapped Tasmanian allrounder Beau Webster was included in the 14-member squad as the back-up for Mitch Marsh, who pulled up sore during the Perth Test, which the hosts lost by 295 runs.

The 30-year-old Webster has emerged as one of Australia’s most promising cricketers and is on the cusp of a Test debut. Webster’s inclusion in the squad is a testament to his remarkable form and versatility in domestic cricket.
Webster’s exceptional first-class form
Last summer, Webster etched his name in Sheffield Shield‘s 132-year history by becoming only the second player, after West Indian legend Sir Garry Sobers, to achieve the extraordinary feat of scoring over 900 runs and taking 30 wickets in a single season. This milestone is particularly significant, as Sobers is widely regarded as one of cricket’s greatest allrounders.

Webster’s all-round dominance has been pivotal for Tasmania. In the 2024-25 Sheffield Shield season, he showcased his match-winning capabilities, sealing Tasmania’s first win with two crucial late wickets against New South Wales. His contributions this summer include 448 runs at an impressive average of 56 and 16 wickets.

Webster’s seam-bowling prowess, a skill he added to his repertoire just four years ago, has been a key factor in his rise. Complemented by occasional off-spin, his bowling versatility provides Australia with a middle-order option capable of chipping in with overs.
Although yet to make his Test debut, Webster’s performances for Australia A, in a 2-0 series victory against India A, further cement his credentials.
Beau Webster’s first-class record:

  • Batting: M 93 | R 5297 | HS 183 | Ave. 37.83 | 12x100s | 24x50s
  • Bowling: M 93 | W 148 | BBI 6/100 | Ave. 37.39 | Econ. 3.45 | SR 64.8 | 2x5wh
