NEW DELHI: Indian batter Nitish Kumar Reddy, just three innings into his Test career, has consistently delivered when his team needed him the most. The young talent once again shone, emerging as the highest scorer in the first innings of the second pink-ball Test against Australia at Adelaide Oval on Friday.
As India struggled against the pink ball, losing wickets at regular intervals, Nitish stood tall, coming close to a half-century before falling for 42.
He impressed with his aggressive approach, including a standout moment where he launched Australian pacer Scott Boland’s length ball for a stunning and unconventional six.
Nitish had already made an impact in the first Test in Perth and is now continuing his excellent form. His unconventional six even left the commentator in stitches, as she drew a parallel with Rishabh Pant, who is also known for his unorthodox shot-making.
Australia’s Mitchell Starc claimed a career-best 6-48 to bundle out India for 180 inside two sessions of the day-night Test.
India lost in-form opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to the first ball of the Test and slumped to 141-8 before Nitish’s belligerent 42 took them past the 175-mark.
India came into the clash riding high after a 295-run victory at the first Test in Perth, but Australia have a formidable record in Adelaide, winning all seven pink-ball Tests they have played at the venue.
