Punjab triumphed over Mumbai by eight wickets in Vijay Hazare Trophy Group C match on Saturday,. Pacer Arshdeep Singh‘s five-wicket haul and opener Prabhsimran Singh‘s unbeaten 150 runs were instrumental in Punjab’s victory.
Prabhsimran Singh’s blistering knock of 150 came off just 101 balls, studded with 14 fours and 10 sixes. He partnered with Abhishek Sharma (66 off 54 balls) for a 150-run opening stand, achieved in just 21.5 overs. Punjab comfortably chased down the target of 249 in a mere 29 overs.
Mumbai’s batting lineup struggled against Arshdeep Singh, who finished with impressive figures of 5/38. Their innings concluded at a below-par 248 all out in 48.5 overs.
Mumbai found themselves in dire straits at 28 for five and later at 112 for seven. However, a late-order rescue effort by Atharva Ankolekar (66) and Shardul Thakur (43) helped them reach a somewhat respectable total.
This marked Mumbai’s second defeat in the group stage, following their loss to Karnataka in a high-scoring encounter in the tournament opener.
Karnataka solidified their top position in Group C with a resounding 10-wicket victory over Arunachal Pradesh. Captain Mayank Agarwal registered his second consecutive century.
Pacer Vasuki Koushik and left-arm spinner Hardik Raj shared eight wickets between them, restricting Arunachal Pradesh to a total of 166.
Agarwal’s unbeaten century (100 off 45 balls) and Abhinav Manohar’s quickfire 66 off 41 balls saw Karnataka reach the target in just 14.2 overs.
Baroda faced a setback in their Group E match against Bengal, posting a modest total of 228. Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya had a disappointing outing, scoring just one run.
Bengal comfortably chased down the target in 43 overs, losing only three wickets. Anustup Majumdar’s unbeaten 99 anchored their successful chase.
Delhi secured a 29-run victory over Kerala in a Group E encounter in Hyderabad. Former Indian pacer Ishant Sharma played a key role, taking 3/48.
Delhi posted a competitive total of 258 for five. Kerala, despite a valiant effort, were bowled out for 229.
