NEW DELHI: In a moment of great relief for Indian cricket fans, star batter Virat Kohli ended his century drought with a brilliant hundred on the second day of the first Test against Australia in Perth on Sunday.
After reaching his century, Kohli blew kisses to his wife, Anushka Sharma that captured everyone’s attention.
Kohli reached his 30th Test century in style, taking 143 balls and hitting eight fours and two sixes, as India declared their second innings at 487/6, setting a daunting target of 534 runs for the hosts.
This marked his first century since July last year, when he accomplished the milestone against the West Indies in Port of Spain.
“Anushka has been right by my side through thick and thin. She knows everything that goes on behind the scenes. Knows what goes on in the head when you’re not performing well. I’m not a guy who hangs around for the sake of it. I take pride in performing for the country, Kohli told Adam Gilchrist while going back to the pavilion.
The 36-year-old star Kohli came into the series under increasing scrutiny after managing only two Test tons in the last five years.
He averaged just 15 in their recent humiliating 3-0 home series loss to New Zealand, sparking questions over whether he should still be an automatic selection.
