NEW DELHI: On the third day of the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the MCG, Nitish Kumar Reddy‘s remarkable maiden Test century captured hearts and left his family overwhelmed with pride and emotion.
The BCCI shared an emotional video on their X handle, capturing the moment Reddy’s parents embraced their son in a mix of joy and disbelief, the emotional scene reflected the culmination of years of hard work, sacrifice, and dreams realised on the grand stage.

“Tears of joy haven’t stopped rolling. The Reddy family has been a bundle of emotions today. Witness the magical moment as they embrace Nitish after he wowed the world with his extraordinary maiden Test century at the MCG. A day etched in memories forever,” they captioned the video.
A decade ago, when his father Muthyala left a stable job to start a micro-finance business and faced financial setbacks, the Reddy family was advised to discourage young Reddy’s cricketing aspirations. However, they remained steadfast and unwavering in their support.

Reddy led India’s fightback with an unbeaten 105 as the visitors ended the day at 358/9. The rising all-rounder was applauded off the Melbourne Cricket Ground after rain brought an early end to play in the final session.
Providing much-needed stability to another struggling Indian batting display, the 21-year-old will resume play on Sunday alongside Mohammed Siraj, who is on two, with India’s first-innings deficit reduced to 116 runs.

To the roar of a large contingent of Indian supporters among a record 83,073 third-day crowd at the MCG, Reddy lofted Scott Boland over mid-on to reach three figures just before play was halted.
