NEW DELHI: Gurjapneet Singh is a promising 26-year-old left-arm seamer from India, known for his smooth bowling action, towering 6’3” frame, and the ability to move the new ball both ways.
Born on November 8, 1998, in Ludhiana, Punjab, he spent much of his childhood in Ambala, Haryana, before relocating to Chennai as a teenager to pursue his cricketing dreams.

Gurjapneet Singh — A Rising Star in Domestic Cricket

Gurjapneet made an unforgettable entry into the Ranji Trophy. On his debut against the formidable Saurashtra side, he produced astonishing figures of 6 for 22, the best by a Tamil Nadu fast bowler in a home match since 2005-06.

Among his scalps was the prized wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara, dismissed for a duck. In his maiden Ranji season, Gurjapneet captured 13 wickets in just four matches, showcasing his knack for dismantling top-order batters and delivering under pressure.

An IPL Journey Begins

Gurjapneet’s talent didn’t go unnoticed by the IPL franchises. Initially, he served as a net bowler for Chennai Super Kings, where he caught the eye with his performances in practice sessions. His consistent ability to bowl with precision in both the powerplay and at the death earned him a spot in the IPL 2025 auction.

The auction was a heated affair. Lucknow Super Giants opened the bidding at Rs 30 lakh, and Chennai Super Kings quickly joined the fray. Gujarat Titans entered the race, with Ashish Nehra showing a keen interest in the Tamil Nadu pacer.
After intense bidding, Gurjapneet was sold to Chennai Super Kings for a whopping Rs 2.2 crore, highlighting his rising stock in Indian cricket.

Mentorship and Development

Gurjapneet owes much of his growth to mentors like R. Ashwin and Yo Mahesh, who worked with him during his stint at the Dindigul Dragons in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.

He has seamlessly filled the void left by the injured T. Natarajan in Tamil Nadu’s Ranji and white-ball squads, becoming a vital cog in their bowling lineup.

What Sets Him Apart

Gurjapneet’s ability to swing the ball and maintain accuracy makes him a threat with the new ball, while his composure and skillset allow him to excel in high-pressure situations at the death.
With his raw talent, disciplined approach, and IPL exposure, Gurjapneet Singh is poised to become one of India’s most exciting left-arm pacers in the years to come.
